Matthias Buchholz

 

Born in Hamburg. He has studied music in Hamburg, Detmold, Cincinatti and at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He was violinist with the Brahms-Quartet Hamburg as well as with the Ridge-Quartet New York, and since 1976 he concertized in Europe, troughout the USA and Canada as well as in South America and the Far East. He has won prizes in several international competitions and held  the post of principal viola in the Stuttgart Radio orchestra from 1086-1990. Since 1990 he is professor for viola at the Musikhochschule Köln. He has been invited to hold master-classes in France, Norway, Austria, Korea, Taiwan, the U.S.A. and Germany as well as participating in festivals like Lyon, Avignon, Berlin, Marlboro, Korsholm, Slovenija, Schleswig-Holstein, Hitzacker and Warsaw. Currently, he is a member of the Linos-Ensemble and a frequent guest with the Vermeer-and the Auryn-Quartet.
