Jewgenij Nesterenko

 

In 1970 as first prize winner at the Tschaikowsky Competition, the Moscow born bass Evgeny Nesterenko was launched on a blazing career. After the Bolshoi, all the great houses beckoned: Vienna, the Metropolian, La Scala, the Teatro Colòn Paris, Covent Garden with Abbado, Muti, Kleiber, Pretre, Sawallich and many more. He has also been guest at the world's great festivals. His beautiful basso voice has charmed audiences of opera, oratorio and Lieder, In the latter domain, he has interpreted the works of Shostakovich and Georgij Swiridow. His Don Carlo, also sung to mark bi-centennial celebrations at La Scala, has brought him particular renown. Nesterenko has recordings to his credit on Melodia, EMI, Philips and other labels. Accorded many distinctions in Russia and abroad, Nesterenko is also professor of singing in Vienna.
