One of
Germany's outstanding pianists of the younger generation. He was born in 1955
in Dessau and took lessons in Wiesbaden at the Conservatory with K.Gerecke, in
spite of a strong predilection for mathematics and physics he went on to study
music - first in Berlin with H.Reichert, than in Hannover with K.-H.Kämmerling,
graduating there in 1978 and completing his examinations as concert pianist in
1982. In addition, Matthias Zimmermann took courses with E.Picht-Axenfeld,
N.Harnoncourt, J.Demus and N.Magaloff. Matthias Zimmermann has made numerous
concert appearances in Germany and abroad, in radio and television productions,
he has performed with major orchestras such as the London Philharmonic
Orchestra. He is at present teaching at the Academy of Music Hannover.
