Nikolay Martynov
Was born
in 1938. Gradueted from the Leningrad State Conservatory and has on the staff
of the Conservatory for over 30 years. He is currently head of the Department
of Instrumentation. His early compositions were highly regarded by Dmitri
Schostakowitsch whose slass in composition he attend from 1963-1966. In 1985
Prof. Martynov presented a paper at the international symposium in Cologne
entitled "The Lessons of Schostakowitsch" and was a member of the
juri for the All-Union competition for wind instruments in Odessa in 1983. His
compositions include four symphonies, the opera "Galileo" and the
ballets "Hercules" and "Crime and Punishment" in addition
to choral and chamber music, film music and incidental music. His music has
been performed throughout Russia and Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, the USA,
Finland and Japan..
