The competition is intended to be the first of a series of competitions under the title "Classica Nova". The main aim is to popularise the music of the 20th century.
The competition has the following categories:
Program length:
Groups 1 and 2: up to 10 minutes
Group 3: 10-15 minutes
Groups 4 and 5: 15-20 minutes
The first round of the Grand-Prix group: 20-40 minutes (15-20 minutes
for vocalists)
The second round of the Grand-Prix group: 40-60 minutes (20-30 minutes
for vocalists)
For winners of the first, second, and third places in the Grand-Prix
group, there are the following awards:
1. for first place up to 15 000 DM
2. for second place up to 9000 DM
3. for third place up to 6000 DM
The nine best accompanists in the 'String Instruments', 'Other Instruments',
and 'Vocal' categories (three places from each category) will receive certificates
and the following awards:
1. for first place up to 1000 DM
2. for second place up to 600 DM
3. for third place up to 400 DM
There are certificates of merit for participants in the Grand-Prix group
and those accompanists who have been placed 4 to 6, as well as teachers
who have prepared prize-winners in groups 1 to 3.
Prize-winners in all six groups who have been placed first in their
categories will take part in the Final Concert which will be recorded on
CD. In all, the competition will have about 300 participants (not counting
the accompanists). The members of the jury are Igor Oistrakh, Lazar Berman,
David Geringas, Dario De Rosa, Zahar Bron, Jevgeny Nesterenko and others
(about 50). In the Honorary Comittee there are Vladimir Ashkenazy, Rudolf
Barshay, Dmitri Bashkirov, Luciano Berio, Sofia Gubaidulina, Natalia Gutman,
Vladimir Krainev, Gidon Kremer, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Zubin Mehta, Maxim
Shostakovich and many others. The organizing committee will provide free
accommodations for the participant, accompanist, and one of the parents
or a legal guardian of a participant under 16 years of age. This applies
to everyone, with the exception of participants under 16 years of age who
are either soloists or are without adult accompanists. In that case, any
adult accompanying person will be provided with free accommodation.
